Once the Kobe port was opened, foreigners set up houses around the Kitano area. As a result, the area became home to numerous foreign residences that gave Kitano an exotic atmosphere, and many of those homes are still in evidence today. It’s relaxing to walk through this area, which has long been popular for Kobe sightseeing. The Shin-Kobe Ropeway operates from Shin-Kobe to Nunobiki-Herb Garden, from which one can enjoy panoramic views over Kobe.
